Of all the surf towns in the world, few can claim a world champ as their own. But thanks to surfer Justin Quintal, Jacksonville is on the map.
Of course, Quinny has long been considered one of the best in the world on a big board. He’s dominated the Duct Tape Invitational–the premier classic logging event. But yesterday in Taiwan, the Mayport resident clinched his first World Surf League Longboard title, putting an exclamation point on the claim that he is indeed The Best.
Though his victory puts to rest the question of who is actually the world’s most talented longboarder, many others remain unanswered. Specifically: how does one celebrate a Northeast Florida surfing champion? A ceremonial paddle out at The Poles? A fan boat parade down the Intracoastal Waterway?
Congrats, Justin. Have a safe trip back. And let us know at which boat ramp to meet you!
