While not a new face around Northeast Florida lineups, VA Beach-native and ride-everything twenty-something Parker Sawyer should be on your radar now, more than ever. Not only is the former Flagler College student newly a Jacksonville resident, his surf star is seemingly on the rise.

Last September, Sawyer took down a crowded field of the EC’s best longboarders (as well as a handful of upstart Californians) in World Champ Justin Quintal’s invitational contest, the Loggerhead Classic. The victory earned Sawyer praise from longboard legend Joel Tudor, as well as an open invite to Tudor’s renowned Duct Tape Invitational (the contest circuit on which another Jax-residing surf star, JQuinny, built his reputation).

Like Quinny, Sawyer is more than confident on a range of crafts, from classic logs to retro single-fins and even blade-y thrusters. (Yet another!) new short from local filmmaker Luke Kothera–whose prolificness is explored in our July issue–bears this out. Click play to watch Sawyer mix it up in the very groovy Summer Days Mixtape.
