At the end of 2018, we profiled 29-year old local lensman Toni Smailagic for our Photo Annual Issue.
Smailagic’s made waves in Jax, and garnered a substantial following for his Instagram avatar @cre8Jax, training his lens on the many cultural happenings across the region, showcasing the distinctive fashion and unique personalities of Northeast Florida, as well as keeping his followers abreast of future gatherings.
Now Smailagic has curated a selection of his photography in his first book, Introducing Jacksonville to Jacksonville. At 264 pages, this 11 x 8.5 inch hard-cover book is packed full of gorgeous photography. The images were shot over the course of two years and more than 300 events, and include a range of settings “from the street style at Downtown Jacksonville Art Walk, to the community organizers, mural installations, nightlife creators, activists, as well as the creators and creatives that put in work around the clock, making sure the city is more inclusive and yields more opportunities for future generations,” Smailagic says. “300 events later, and I knew the only way to wrap up the first two years would be through a book that highlights my favorite people, events, and development efforts.”
Smailagic recently launched a preorder campaign to pay for the book’s publishing. You can read more about the project and order a copy here.
