Each year, the world’s best professional golfers and more than 200,000 fans from all corners of the globe travel to Ponte Vedra Beach for THE PLAYERS Championship, the biggest sporting and social event of the year in Northeast Florida and beyond.
The strongest players, from Jack Nicklaus to Tiger Woods to Fred Couples, Phil Mickelson, Rickie Fowler and Rory McIlroy have etched their names on THE PLAYERS trophy.
However, this championship is about so much more than the drama and thrilling moments that take place inside the ropes. THE PLAYERS is about embracing and supporting the community where this championship is played, and this is especially true for the men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces and their families.
“Jacksonville has the largest military presence and veteran population in Florida and is home to some of the largest Navy bases in the country,” said Executive Director of THE PLAYERS Jared Rice. “It is incredibly important that we embrace our military personnel and their contributions to our community and our country. They make daily sacrifices in order to protect and preserve the freedoms we enjoy, and we look forward to honoring them at this year’s tournament.”
Throughout the week, THE PLAYERS provides complimentary admission to verified active duty, military retirees, military reserve, National Guard, military spouses and accompanied dependents with valid identification. Veterans are provided an exclusive offer, permitting them to purchase one (1) ticket for themselves and one (1) ticket for a guest at a discounted rate per day ($20/each – Tuesday and Wednesday; $30/each – Thursday through Sunday).
Each year, THE PLAYERS designates the Tuesday of tournament week as Military Appreciation Day, complete with a ceremony of nationally ranked dignitaries, military pageantry and a culminating concert on the world-famous Island Green 17th hole.
Some of the biggest names in the music industry have performed at THE PLAYERS – from Toby Keith and Jake Owen to Sam Hunt, Luke Bryan and Luke Combs.
However, the 2020 Military Appreciation Concert is going to be unlike anything fans at THE PLAYERS have ever experienced – for the first time, a pop/EDM artist will take the stage.
On Tuesday, March 10, 2020, The Chainsmokers are coming to THE PLAYERS.
The Grammy® Award-winning duo has developed some of the biggest breakthrough songs over the last few years, including Multi-Platinum certified hits “Roses,” “Don’t Let Me Down” and “Closer,” which went on to become the longest running #1 single of 2016 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
This year, The Chainsmokers will lead the celebration of military members in Northeast Florida.
Supporting US troops is a high priority for the duo, who have organized a number of military outreach efforts, including a concert for deployed military members who were unable to be with their families for the holidays. They even surprised nearly 500 holiday holdover solders at McCrady Training Center in South Carolina with an electrifying USO concert.
The Chainsmokers concert at THE PLAYERS will immediately follow the Military Appreciation Day Ceremony at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, March 10. Tickets for Tuesday’s practice round cost just $45+ and already include access to the concert. Tuesday parking is $15 and must be purchased in advance. Tournament officials fully expect Tuesday to be sold out, so fans are encouraged to act fast and get their tickets now.
Military Appreciation efforts at THE PLAYERS don’t stop with The Chainsmokers.
Throughout tournament week, all active duty, Reserve military members, military retirees, veterans and their dependents will have access to the Birdies for the Brave ® Patriots’ Outpost presented by United Rentals, a hospitality tent reserved exclusively for the military which offers complimentary food, beverages and activities. During the 2019 tournament, THE PLAYERS hosted roughly 20,000 military service men, women and family members in the Patriots’ Outpost.
Prior to tournament week, THE PLAYERS will welcome active duty, Reserve, retired military, veterans, and military spouses to TPC Sawgrass on Saturday, March 7, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Birdies for the Brave® Patriots’ Outpost to participate in its eighth-annual Military Job Fair, in partnership with the Jacksonville Military Veterans Coalition and sponsored by United Rentals.
Additionally, on Sunday, March 8, THE PLAYERS and Birdies for the Brave® will again partner with Operation Shower to host a private, invite-only, group baby shower for 40 military moms-to-be. Scheduled to be held from 12-2 p.m. in the Birdies for the Brave® Patriots’ Outpost, the event will be sponsored by United Rentals and will feature Operation Shower’s signature Shower-In-A-Box, high-quality gifts for the moms and babies provided by sponsors and donors.
