No one should dread the most beloved season of the year, but with today’s variety of swimwear and multiple outlets to shop, a girl could spend hours looking for her perfect suit. In fact, sometimes it seems like there are too many options to count! With so many styles out there, it becomes difficult to sort through the masses and find what really flatters your particular body type. From petite and athletic to pair-shaped and curvy, we hope this guide will help you when shopping for your second summer skin.

Petite: A smaller chest requires less support, so you can look for styles with more minimal coverage. Triangle tops create the illusion of curves, as do tops with bold prints or embellishments. As far as bottoms, less fabric around the hips give the illusion of a tall frame so string sides or bikini cut are the way to go! Try not to lean towards one pieces, they can make your frame look even smaller.

Athletic: To add curves to an athletic figure, try a suit with three-dimensional details. Ruffles, Criss-Cross straps and funky prints can all create the illusion of a more curvaceous figure. Simple suits, solid colors without texture or accents, only reinforce straight lines. If you decide to go the one-piece route, look for something with side cut outs to create an hourglass silhouette.

Curvy: High-waist, retro-style bottoms are particularly flattering on this body type. This trend is on high alert, so be sure to take advantage of how great these can make your curves look. If you want to conceal any extra hip action, look for a piece with side paneling or a vertical strip pattern. Underwire tops are another great trend curvy girls should take advantage of. Finally a bikini top with coverage and support! Some bra tops even go up to a size DDD!

Pear-Shaped: Pear-shaped ladies, you may have the hardest job when searching for a swim suit, but can also have the most fun! You get to mix and match to find something flattering for two different body types. Low-riding boy shorts are sexy, but still provide plenty of fabric on the backside. Also think about the same high-rise bottoms as a curvy girl for another option. Gathered fabric boosts the bust line and can help to even out your top/bottom ratio. Halter swim tops are a great piece when trying to create the illusion of symmetry and come in so many cool prints and styles currently!

Guys, though you may not believe it, there are many different styles of swimwear for you, as well. Whether you’re comfortable with a drawstring, elastic, briefs or board shorts, we’re here to show you three different styles you could try out this summer.

Classic Baggies: If you’re active in the surf community, your board shorts may have been referred to as “baggies.” These are perfect for all types of activities, especially ones that involve the water.

Shorties: Now if you don’t like to show off a little thigh, these probably aren’t for you. But, if you’re willing to try something new and fun, get these bad boys.
