Hurricane season is in the books, but even though we Floridians may not like the cold, winter tends to be prime time for surf in North Florida. We’re setup perfect for nor’easters, because a big blizzard to the north is nothing more than a chilly cyclonic storm bringing harsh conditions to others but consistent waves for us.

Relatedly, we have a nice winter swell on tap this week. A low pressure system is expected to cruise out off of Hatteras in a couple of days. Winds are predicted to be unpredictable, but with ridable surf all week in the waist to chest high range (and another blast come Thursday/Friday that could send some overhead surf our way), there’ll be windows of favorable winds in there, somewhere–you’ll just have to be on it. This fits a typical pattern this time of year: cold-cold-cold days, warming trend, rain, then cold windy conditions to follow. It’s like clockwork.

The holidays are upon us so now is the time to get that new shred stick for winter, and maybe take a look at the fresh quiver of Void Surfboards. Also if you haven’t upgraded your wetty for the season now is the time to get into your favorite local surf shops while supplies last. Fun Surf All Week. Wax ’em up and get on it!
