What began as a short, semi-regular column (the Transworld Surf-inspired “Kurious Kayla”) turned into a productive and brand defining relationship that lasted from 2010-2013, when Kayla Beckmann Barnhart relinquished her post as the mag’s first real (sorry, Aaron Meisenheimer) Editor-in-Chief.

From Issue 4, the Transworld Surf-inspired Kurious Kayla was a local spin on a tried and true format.

“Void wasn’t a typical first-office experience by any means,” she told us of her time at the mag, a job she entered fresh out of college. “The old cliche about fake it til’ ya make it was probably the general theme for everyone back in those days.”

No longer faking it, Barnhart has made it with her own boutique marketing agency, Small Fox Media (now based in Denver), which boasts such national lifestyle brands as Teva, Sanuk, and ICEMULE coolers as clients.
