LCD Soundsystem’s James Murphy has been largely absent from the music world in recent years, but earlier this month, Murphy released some amazing new work in the form of a David Bowie remix. The former LCD Soundsystem frontman hasn’t dropped anything like this since his days with The DFA Remixes, and it’s about time. Bowie is undoubtedly one of Murphy’s major influences, so it comes as no surprise that his remix of “Love Is Lost” is nothing short of amazing. Other obvious influences in the remix include Steve Reich and his signature “Clapping Music.” The ten-minute track starts off slowly with a heavily synthy soundscape that picks up pace around the five minute mark and evolves into a disco sound akin to that of LCD Soundsystem’s glory days that makes me think…why did you have to stop making music Murphy and friends?

The original song comes from Bowie’s latest album The Next Day. A new three-disc deluxe edition of the album is set to be released soon and the album will include several new tracks including this 10-minute remix of “Love Is Lost”. Listen to the song below and try not to cry when you think of how much you miss LCD Soundsystem.
