Like a heavily zink’d–and fully clothed–tourist on a holiday booze cruise, Florida bands tend to find ways to shun the spotlight, preferring a thumbing-of-the-nose approach to music-making, prevailing trends be damned! Jax-based record label and promotion outfit Winterland Presents, meanwhile, has made somewhat of a mission out of bringing such artists out into the sunshine. In 2019, the label-side of its operation released its first 7-inch, a double-single from Jax’s mighty Afro-Cuban Salsa outfit LPT. And in early 2020, the Winterland braintrust staged the three-day Winterland III in Historic 5 Points, the third iteration of its yearly music festival featuring nearly four-dozen garage, psych, hip-hop, electronic, and indie artists (more than 30 of them Jax locals).

And though COVID may have slowed down the music industry, at large, like a Florida Man trying to wrest the crack pipe from the digestive track of his mama’s Boa constrictor, the team at Winterland won’t be denied its fix.

On Friday, August 28, the label drops a new double-single from St. Petersburg-based cowpunks Fever Beam. Winterland is also offering limited edition, Fever Beam-inspired bundles along with the group’s self-titled 7-inch, including the band’s full-length “Let’s Shoot a Hole Through the Moon” on cassette, a koozie, a to-go cocktail (or a mocktail, if you prefer) from way-cool 5 Points bar Root Down, and a can of vegan Fever Beam O’s prepared by Creative Pasta Co. (seriously). All this for $30 (seriously)!

Here’s a bit about St. Pete’s fave glam-y cowpunks, as described by Winterland’s PR team:

“Fever Beam are a luscious indulgence of youthful vices and bad behavior. Formed in the sweat tank of a Florida summer, the trio evokes energy from the past legends of glam, punk, and blues. They may as well be rolling around on the floor of CBGB’s covered in beer, blood, and cigarette ash. They’d just as soon put their tongue down your throat as they’d kick you in the shins. Don’t leave your drink on the table unless you’d like it in your face.”

Bundles are available for pick-up-only at Root Down (1034 Park St. | 5 Points). Fever Beam’s self-titled 7-inch is available HERE via Winterland’s web store.
