Local lens-person Allan Pimenta has lately become one of our favorite image-makers. Pimenta shot a handful of vibrant portraits of local artists for Void’s recent feature on the partnership between the Boys & Girls Club’s Citi Teen Center and artist Nicole Holderbaum’s Kid’s Mural Project. His work was also featured in our 2019 Photo Annual.
Here we find another intersection between Pimenta and Holderbaum’s creative outputs. This photograph, taken at a basketball court in Riverside painted by Holderbaum captures Jamall Brown, mugging stoically. “I wanted him to stand in front of the hoop so his hair would stand out,” Pimenta says. He estimates that “the Jaguar parked in the back” emerging from the lush, regal trees “was the cherry on top.”
