If you choose to listen to one local drive-time radio show, WJCT’s First Coast Connect should be it. Hosted by North Florida icon and Void’s #1 Radio Personality in the 904, Melissa Ross, FCC is certainly the most informative and engaging.
On Tuesday, the main topic at hand was Jax’s runoff elections, which though undeniably important, elicited paltry voter turnout; with roughly 87,000 ballots cast, turnout was estimated at just over 14%.
Yet, despite the disappointing numbers, the program’s final five minutes (we hope) provided at least a semblance of a silver lining. Ross invited Void editor Matthew Shaw into the WJCT studios to talk about the mag’s first ever 35 Under 35: Bold Movers Issue, which features profiles of youngish North Floridians who not only excel in their respective fields. The folks featured in May’s issue of Void are each making bold moves to make the region a better place in which to live. As Ross professed at the end of the interview, “The kids are alright.”
