Melissa Ross is a boss. Full Stop.

If you don’t regularly tune in to WJCT’s First Coast Connect on 89.9FM (weekday mornings from 9-10 a.m.), you’re surely missing out on THE MOST engaging conversation and local news analysis, all of which is curated and orchestrated by longtime host Melissa Ross–winner of Void’s #1 in the 904 “Best Radio Personality.” A sampling of recent conversations and topics: a discussion with Action News Jax’s Ken Jefferson about addressing Jacksonville’s spiking violent crime rate; Florida’s push towards legalizing recreational marijuana; a convo with neo-Southern Rock icon, Mofro’s JJ Grey; and a wide-ranging Q&A with former Secretary of State/Senator John Kerry.

Somewhat relatedly, last Friday Ross extended me what’s become a semi-regular invitation to discuss the haps here at Void Mag.

We talked Void’s new Photo Annual/Holiday Gift Guide and the contents, therein. Specifically, we touched on how the Photo Annual has become a time capsule, of sorts, capturing the beauty of the region,  its people, and the cultural movements underway in the 904. The always astute Ross pointed out that we featured “local legend” photojournalist Walter Coker, who she called “one of the best photographers anywhere.” (No kidding, he was just profiled in the latest issue of The Surfers Journal.)

Ross also encouraged “everyone to get into the Void.”

Listen to me wax somewhat philosophical re: pretty pictures, here. (Our segment starts at 45:55).
