The Roots are returning to the scene with a new single to preview their upcoming concept album, “Undun.” The release date is set for December 6, 2011. “Undun” tells a story about a man who falls victim to temptations of the criminal world, in order to stay afloat in a cruel and ever-changing society. The single is entitled “Make my,” and features the recently rising artist, Big K.R.I.T. from Mississippi. Unlike most other “conscious rap,” this track is different in the way that it is personal, with out being preachy. “Make my” opens with, “an uncommonly elegiac verse that owes more to Mos Def than David Banner, rapping.” The verse starts out with “I did it all for the money. Lord, It’s what it seems, well in it the world of night terrors. It’s hard to dream; they’re hollering cash rules everything.” Roots’ MC Black Thought’s verse however, has more of an edge. He confronts past hardship with uncommon wordplay. Blanketed with soulfulness and evident of talent, The Roots’ “Make My,” is a sign of good things to come from the album.
