The Jaguars are coming off an unlikely win and face the Titans this Thursday Night. They’ll be debuting all-gold uniforms, part of the NFL’s Thursday Night Gold Rush. Somehow at 3 and 6, the Jags are just a game out of the division lead and Tennessee (2 and 7) is just two games out.
The Titans are led by this year’s second pick Marcus Mariota. They don’t have much of a running game to speak of, and Mariota’s having a very good rookie year, despite the 2 and 7 record. The big storyline will be former Jag’s head coach Mike Mularky returning to Jacksonville as the interim head coach of the Titans. They fired their coach a couple of weeks ago. Mularky went 2 and 14 during his lone season here, the worst record in franchise history.
The Titan’s receiving core is depleted with injuries. Starter Justin Hunter is out with a fractured ankle, and their leading receiver Kendall Wright is questionable after missing the last few games with a knee injury. The Titan’s tight end Delanie Walker should be the Jags’ biggest concern. He leads Tennessee with over 500 yards through the air and tight ends have gashed the Jags over and over (last week for 100 plus yards and two touchdowns).
Hopefully, Tennessee’s run game continues to sputter. Marks, the biggest difference maker, tore his tricep on Sunday and will miss the rest of 2015. They are capable of filling in for him, as they did quite well against the Panthers and Dolphins early in the year.
Bortles will need to bounce back from his worse game of the season against the Ravens. Yeldon was walking in a boot early in the week, but he said he should play. If not, Denard Robinson will likely start. The Titans D gets thrown on a lot, so Blake could be in for a big day.
This is the most important game of the season for Jacksonville. A chance for a winning streak for once and to win three out of four. It would pull them within a half of game of the AFC South and it is the lone primetime game in front of a national audience they have.
Prediction: Jaguars 27 — Titans 20
