An indoor go kart race track is planned for Jacksonville’s Southside, pending zoning approval. Tampa-based company Autobahn Indoor Speedway plans to open the $2 million dollar facility at a site located between Philips Highway and Interstate 95, north of Butler Boulevard. It will be housed in an 80,000-square foot warehouse, with room for two tracks, spectator areas, party rooms and meeting facilities.
Jacksonville is the third location for Autobahn, which opened its first location in Maryland last May. The operation will employ 35 people.
The speedway will feature high-performance electric racing carts that can reach up to 50 miles per hour. Racers will be assigned to an upcoming race. Reservations won’t be required, and head socks worn under full face helmets will be provided.
“At Autobahn Indoor Speedway, everyone can be a race driver and feel the rush of being behind the wheel of Italian-made adult racing karts,” said Autobahn managing director David Larson in a recent press release.
Autobahn Indoor Speedway is set to open in April 2014.
