Indie-pop stylist HUAN rides the chill wave of ‘90s nostalgia with the first cut from a forthcoming collection of sunny, lo-fi, R&B-inflected tunes. On “Days” HUAN, AKA Juan Mallorca, displays his versatility with silky-smooth vocals and a few bars of rhymes delivered with equal effortlessness.

Produced by Mallorca and Sean Dolich, and mixed and mastered by Josh Cobb at Rockbot Studios here in Jacksonville, “Days” deploys a throwback palette–modulated guitars and keys, familiarly funky bass lines, digital drums–to paint a kind of comfortable, sonic safe room from which Mallorca can snap out of his forlorn longing.

“I’ll keep trying to find my wings,” Mallorca sings in the tune’s opening salvo. “And when I do, I ain’t never coming down.” Here’s hoping HUAN continues to soar on the next cut.
