As Northeast Florida continues to establish itself as a hub for the craft beer movement, a number of local establishments are taking advantage of the surge of innovative brews to enhance their menus and promote local business. Brewpubs and gastropubs are dedicated to serving upscale, unique and flavorful brews — in addition to great food.

A brewpub is any restaurant or pub that brews beer in a microbrewery on location — because if you’re going to make your own food, why not your own beer, too? These establishments feature handcrafted brews because they believe that, like great cooking, great brewing should be personal, researched, specialized and fresh.

While gastropubs may not feature a microbrewery on-site, they don’t love the craft any less. These establishments take pride in filling their taps and bottles with local favorites, along with nationally and internationally acclaimed brews.

Local Brewpubs

Ragtime started as a neighborhood hole-in-the-wall, but has since evolved into the staple gastropub of Atlantic Beach. It’s handcrafted ales and lagers have won numerous awards, and are known for their freshness and flavor. The brewpub also features live entertainment and a backyard patio.

Café Karibo & Karibrew Brewpub:

Nestled in a small corner of downtown Fernandina Beach, the Karibrew Brewpub is an upscale café that features select drafts fermented in house.

A1A Ale Works:

A1A Ale Works is the only brewpub in St. Augustine, boasting fresh seafood, award-winning ales and lagers, and live entertainment.

Zeta Brewing Company:

The owners of Zeta decided that life is too short to drink cheap beer, so they turned the restaurant into a brewpub earlier this summer. Chris Prevatt brews ales and lagers on-site in a seven-barrel brewhouse.

Seven Bridges:

Seven Bridges is a rustic grill and brewpub that provides a cozy atmosphere for their handcrafted beer. In addition to the brewery, Seven Bridges boasts billiards and an outdoor heated patio and beer garden.

River City Brewing Company:

River City Brewing utilizes English and German two-rowed malted barley and fresh hops from the Pacific Northwest to create a distinctive flavor. The traditional brewery is nostalgic for early American craft brewing and utilizes Renaissance brewing techniques.

Brewer’s Pizza:

Brewer’s understands that nothing goes better with pizza than beer, which is why they have Pinglehead Brewing Company on-site brewing “Beer with Attitude” for diners. The brewery warns that this beer is not for the pale light lager of heart – all of their beer is BIG beer, brewed with strong flavor and attitude.

Veteran’s Memorial Craft Brewery:

The new kid on the block, the Veterans United Craft Brewery is one of the newest microbreweries to hit Jacksonville. Founded in 2013 by a diverse group of military veterans, this microbrew will include a variety of unique and flavorful beer.
