For many of us here at VOID mag, in the year of COVID-19, the surf-movie premiere has been truly missed. Even with a veritable library of surf films just a click a way, nothing compares to an in-person viewing, complete with hoots and hollers, revelry, and mucho, mucho surf talk.

And no one does the surf-film premiere quite like the team at the Florida Surf Film Festival. Held quarterly at the very cool Atlantic Center for the Arts in New Smyrna Beach, FSFF has become a gathering place for the Sunshine State surf community at-large, as fest-runners John Brooks and Kevin Miller have earned a reputation for their curation of gorgeous, thought-provoking, and fun features and shorts, rolled out for large-scale, community engaging screenings to full-capacity audiences of surf-obsessives.

After sitting dormant for more than a year, FSFF returns June 18 and 19 with a full slate of films, including the groundbreaking 2020 documentary Girls Can’t Surf and the smash Stab-Mag-produced serial doc Andy Irons and the Radicals. As per usual for FSFF, filmmakers, cast, and FSFF-jurors will be in attendance both nights, including four-time World Champion, FL-legend and Girls Can’t Surf start Lisa Andersen and Stab Editor Ashton Goggans, director of the latest Andy Irons feature.

Food on offer and brews on tap. See ya in NSB for FSFF.
