Feeling awkward buying coloring books meant for toddlers and young kids but still love to color?
Fear not, as coloring books made strictly for adults are here! Not to mention, they currently lead on Amazon’s best sellers list. A Scottish illustrator, Johanna Basford, created a book titled, ” Secret Garden: An Inky Treasure Hunt and Coloring Book” and “Enchanted Forest: An Inky Quest & Coloring Book” both of which have exploded in popularity in the last few weeks.
The books feature intricately drawn pictures of flora and fauna. They aren’t the only coloring books that are popular right now however. Richard Merritt’s “Art Therapy Coloring Book” is on the top sellers list as well. It promotes therapy, stating, “readers can start to relax with this sophisticated anti-stress coloring, doodling and drawing book.”
“I think it is really relaxing, to do something analogue, to unplug,” Basford said. “And it’s creative. For many people, a blank sheet is very daunting; with a colouring book you just need to bring the color. Also there’s a bit of nostalgia there.”
