Summer fun on the water continues into almost the middle of the summer season now! The bite overall was good this week all around, a bit tough to keep a pulse on where the bait was moving offshore, and some species are holding locations and some are moving around a bit. We’ve added a new segment to the Weekly Fishing Roundup, the Pier Report brought to us now weekly from our oversized dock fish slayer, Spencer Brogden! We want to cover all genres of fishing in North Florida at www.Voidlive.com, so you can truly be on the bite in all locations throughout the weekend!
Jacksonville – Capt. Kirk Waltz: It’s been hot out there, and early in the week the bait moved up north, then back down south as the week went on. As the bait moved so did the fish, and nice sized kings were caught off of Amelia Island, and there were some tarpon and sharks on the bait pods! A nice haul of cobia were caught trolling nearshore, and AJs within 7-8 miles around the party grounds! The bull reds are still running thick in the 25-40’+ drops in the river, and they seem to really turn on right at the high first of the outgoing tide!
Inshore/Kayak – Rory Gregg: Bait, bait, and more bait in the creeks and flats right now! Literally 1000s of mudders, mullet, and little grass shrimp, so the fish are fat and happy, and sometimes hard to catch this time of year. Night fishing is a great alternative, just always use proper safety when fishing at night with lighting beacons. The bite will be strongest this weekend early or late in the day when it is cooler out, and the water temp is lower. Top water and hard baits in the morning, then as the sun gets higher working a live shrimp on a popping cork or a Slayer jig will entice a big bite from any of our prized inshore species!
Pier Report – Spencer Brogden: Fishing at the pier this time of year has been super fun! The trout bite has been on in the morning on the high outgoing tide with live shrimp, and redfish have been chewing as well! Kingfish are being caught off the end of the pier on live pogeys, and put up an amazing fight from an aerial view! There are still sheepies biting during the afternoons, and they’re being caught on live shrimp and sandfleas!
