It has been a subtle week of weather reprieve after the last storm ridden week and weekend. Lots of action this week on the grass flats as our “Super Moon” was back, but also some deep grass spinner bait opportunities along the fringes of the rivers and ICW. With the moons come the tides, and there was some serious low tide action to be had at the right places. Cleaner water being washed in with these stronger tides has woken things up in some unseasonable ways offshore, and the big reds are marching up and down the rivers and inlets as the pre-spawn times are turning on. As the week faded so does the moon this weekend, but looking at the week ahead it should be good fishing all around, and it’s is just going to get better and better as we approach fall… Tight Lines!
St. Augustine – Capt. Kevin Faver: I know this kinda sounds like a spring report, but the bait pods have been deep this week and holding some bull reds! The cobia have been swarming all over the nearshore wrecks too! Spanish mackerel are literally everywhere at the inlet on the incoming tides. The bridges and and jetties have been holding lots of reds and big black drum!
Jacksonville – Capt. Kirk Waltz: Lots of bull reds from the sand flats to the Dames Point and beyond! Good inshore red bite of reds of all sizes inshore north and south of ICW even up to the rocks, jacks and flounder mixed in as well! Offshore there have been lots of grouper and snapper being caught on the reefs and wrecks!
Inshore – Rory Gregg: It was all about the tide inshore this week and we had some monster ones, some of the biggest of the year! Flood tide fishing was great this week, if you were in the right place you scored some nice schools of reds, drum, and sheeps on the fly or conventional weedless plastics like the SST by Slayer in natural colors! On the low it was super negative so it gave us a look at structures like we don’t normally get to see, and it also turned the flounder and red bite on around the structures on falling tides!
