When Brooklyn-based Champagne Superchillin dropped by the office before their North Florida gig, having listened to the Brooklyn-based group’s muzak, we were certainly intrigued by the thought of the band’s saccharine psychedelia bouncing off our exposed concrete walls and we wondered how it might fill the cavernous space of the our open office floor plan. Champagne’s new record Beach Deep finds the band mining the typically superficial realms of garage and surf, yet expanding them sonically and bombastically with distinctive textures and tasteful riffage. Their subsequent Into the Void performance—of three tracks spanning the band’s output thus far—didn’t disappoint. And though we’re no Silicon Valley tech firm, Champagne’s groovy tunes and sensuous production had us feeling like we’d spent the afternoon micro-dosing.
