Imgur.com, a popular image-hosting website, has released the Internet’s top images and photos of 2014. These pictures were picked because of their popularity and influence they had online. They include a huge range of different types of things, to a wild take on the ALS ice bucket challenge, the usual puppy and baby web pics, a few pictures of good deeds and good will and even a picture depicting the sobering situation in Ukraine. The pics and GIFs differ greatly from their list of pics for 2013, which is listed on the site as well.

Imgur claims that these images were the ones that defined the Internet in 2014. Take a look and see if you agree with them.

14. The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge done right

The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge was undoubtedly one of the most viral trends of 2014. Amongst the boring Facebook news feed posts, some gems stood out. Called “one of the most fantastic things ever” by one commenter, this one has all the makings of an Internet hit–horse mask, parody, charity and dancing like she’s never danced before. With 1.5 million views, we can certifiably say she’s a mane-iac.

13. French bulldog puppy jumps into his owner’s arms. Shows no hesitation second time around.

It wouldn’t be the Best of Imgur without a cute baby animal. The Internet went wild over this little guy, who, as one commenter put it, “learns faster than 90% of people I know (including me).” Clocking in at 3.6 million views and nearly 19,000 points, this trusting puppy jumped right past his owner’s arms and into the Internet’s heart.

12. Imgur asked for it: The satisfaction album.

Once upon a time Imgurians were obsessed and mesmerized by swirly, forever-looping GIFs. The original GIF was tweaked and added onto and changed by various users until it eventually became Imgur’s new loading GIF and the “@sarah pls” meme was born. To this day, swirly gems like these original ones show up daily in User Submitted. You guys are a bunch of weirdos, but this is why you’re the best and we love you.

11. Unbridled Joy

No child was more stoked than this girl on Christmas. It’s a feeling we all remember well and strive to achieve in our adult lives. This hilarious image has been viewed nearly 3 million times and secured its spot as one of the highest scoring of the year in only one week, and to that we throw our fists up with joyful rage.

10. Mourning Robin Williams Together

The unexpected death of Robin Williams hit all of us hard. In a time of sorrow, we saw millions of people turning to their Internet family to share memories and grieve, as well as reexamine or learn about mental illness. So much so that nearly the entire front page of Imgur showed thumbnails of our childhood hero for an entire day.

9. Grandma wanted to see the ocean one last time before checking into hospice. Her face says it all.

It’s rare when an image captures a moment so perfect that it makes us smile and simultaneously breaks our hearts. This one managed to do just that for the 4.5 million people who saw it, reminding us not to take life for granted and cherish the happy moments.

8. MRW I am outside and the subway door closes with my friend inside

The GIF certainly took the throne as the favorite image format this year, and it has no intention of giving up its position. One of the year’s best GIF trends was GIF mash-ups. Javert, once just a simple reaction GIF, evolved at rapid speeds, making an unexpected resurgence and securing a spot as Imgur’s favorite meme of 2014. He popped up everywhere, in every moment, and the Internet will never be safe from his longing gaze again.

7. Before & After – Kiev’s Independence Square – Ukraine

The crisis in Ukraine was one of the most newsworthy events of the year that flooded Imgur flooded with startling and amazing images from the country, including this one showing the shocking effects in Kiev. Viewed more than 2.5 million times, it has become one of the defining images of the crisis. 6. This man participated in one of the biggest Magic: the Gathering tournaments of all time. In an effort to document it, he posed for pictures near people with exposed asscracks. Presenting: Grand Prix Richmond Crackstyle.

This much crack can get you 25 to life. OP describes Grand Prix Richmond Crackstyle as “part funny, part social commentary, and part PSA.” Whatever it is, it set the Internet on fire, receiving over 3 million views and sparking a debate about humor versus bullying online. Despite being one of the most upvoted albums of the year, the stunt didn’t go over well with everyone in the Magic the Gathering community. It’s rumored that he received a temporary ban from tournaments.

5. Danquan- The Man, The Myth, The Legend

The story of Danquan happened within the comments section of Imgur, making it the most unique on this list. Imgur waited with bated breath for each new update from OP AnthonyCapo as he shared the story comment by comment of his pregnant sister, a spur of the moment proposal, a stolen toaster, and a Jimmy John’s delivery order. The entire community erupted, choosing teams and favorite characters until the front page was completely taken over by Danquan. Confused, yet? Sadly, you had to be there. 4. This is Carter. He knocked on the door to ask if he could have a banana then left.

When Carter showed up on this doorstep and asked for a banana, the Internet was never the same. His overall badassery and zero cares attitude was the source of much admiration and even more Photoshop; Carter began popping up everywhere you’d expect a BAMF to appear–action movie posters, explosions, and near-death situations. The original image of Carter the Banana Boy has been viewed 6.8 million times on Imgur this year. We don’t know what Carter is up to now, but we’re pretty sure he’s doing something freakin’ sweet.

3. “Photoshop Request: My daughter recently passed away after a long battle in the children’s hospital. Since she was in the hospital her whole life we never were able to get a photo without all her tubes. Can someone remove the tubes from this photo?”

The power of the Internet reigns supreme once again! When this mourning father posted his Photoshop request, the Internet community delivered in a major way, sending hundreds of drawings and photos. The father responded on Reddit, “This is really amazing. Everyone you have made my day. All I wanted was a nice picture. What I received was a lot of love and support from a bunch of strangers.” Faith in humanity restored.

2. Got divorced, lost his job, so he and a buddy got on their motorcycles and rode North to the Alaskan Arctic until the road ran out.

One of the most inspiring stories of the year is of a down-and-out man who decided to take an epic motorcycle roadtrip. Three million people shared his journey through his beautiful images. See, Internet? Maybe going outside isn’t so scary after all.

1. This sad Brazilian fan was shown crying. But no one’s published this beautiful picture of him handing the trophy to a German fan. He was quoted as saying, “Take it to the final! As you can see, it is not easy, but you deserve it. Congratulations!”

This man became one of the most famous faces on the Internet during the 2014 World Cup. He broke everyone’s heart with his sad expression after Brazil’s loss to Germany, but we were happy to learn he was just toying with our emotions. The man, somewhat of a legend among soccer fans in Brazil, happily mingled with the German fans and inspired the world with his sportsmanship.
