Recently, Esquire magazine began searching for the best, legit whiskey in each state, in hopes to find the one that will one day take on the long-held crown of the whiskey made in Kentucky and Tennessee.

… and Floridians — you’re in luck. Our very own St. Augustine Distillery just so happened to win Best Whiskey in the U.S. for the State of Florida.

The St. Augustine Distillery crafts a port-finished bourbon aged in barrels from the San Sebastian Winery. The award-winning Bourbon was released in the winter of 2016 and has an ABV of 51 percent.  “For this release, we took our award-winning Florida Double Cask Bourbon and finished it in port wine barrels from our neighbors at San Sebastian Winery. The result is spectacular; A unique malted bourbon with a smooth and semi-sweet finish with hints of raisins, cinnamon, cloves, and chocolate. Our Port Finished Bourbon also won a Triple Gold Medal in the 2016 MicroLiquor Awards,” said Philip McDaniel, the Distillery’s co-founder and CEO.

As if this bourbon couldn’t get any better, the port finish was awarded a platinum medal and named Best in Category for the 2017 SIP Awards, which is the largest consumer-rated international whiskey competition in the U.S.

Thirsty yet?
You can pick up a bottle of the special bourbon exclusively at the St. Augustine Distillery, located on 112 Riberia Street in St. Augustine, where they also offer free tours and tastings daily. While you’re there, might I suggest the bourbon balls, too.
