New York City has started the process of turning payphones into more thoughtful spaces for the public. Nearly 7,500 of these relics of the past are now being transformed into Wi-Fi hotspots and yes you guessed it, masturbation booths (Ok … you probably didn’t guess that one).

The London-based sex toy company Hot Octopuss set up a “GuyFi” booth in Manhattan on 28th Street and 5th Avenue, complete with a chair, a laptop and, of course, of curtain for your privacy. The company reported nearly 100 men have used the booth since its opening last week (wait … this is being used? what the actual f***).

Hot Octopuss co-founder Adam Lewis had this to say in a press release:

“There’s no denying that working a 9 to 5 job can be stressful on both your mind and body, especially in a non-stop city like Manhattan. It’s really important for guys to look after themselves so that they can stay healthy and focus properly on the task in hand. We’re told time and time again how beneficial it is to have a break away from your desk. At Hot Octopuss we are all about looking for new solutions to improve everyday life and we feel we’ve done just that with the new GuyFi booth. We hope the city’s men enjoy using the space we’ve created in whatever way they want. It’s completely free of charge … all that we ask is they thank us when they get their promotion!”

I can’t focus on this paperwork anymore! If only there was a place I could go rub one out.

Let’s not forget here that public masturbation is still illegal (sorry overworked desk jockey). A representative from Hot Octopuss told Mashable, “We may be insinuating that these booths could be used in whichever way anyone would like to ‘self soothe,’ [but] the brand is not actively encouraging people to masturbate in public, as that is an illegal offense.”

According to a survey done by Timeout, an alarming 39 percent of New York residents feel the need to buff their banana while at work. So, don’t be shy if you need leave the office for a moment to get rid of some stress at a GiFi booth coming to a town near you.
