Good things are on the horizon for Jacksonville, as many new and exciting foodie delights are coming to town over the course of the next year. There are some great restaurants and drinking establishments planning to open their doors here in Jacksonville within the next few months. Here’s a few you can look forward to around town.
Engine 15 Taproom
The highly anticipated downtown location of Engine 15 is set to open this fall. Co-owner and head brewer, Luch Scremin, said the seating will be mostly outdoors, “an urban beer garden.” Engine 15 has been in the works since last winter, but zoning and permitting delayed their opening.
Town Hall by Tom Gray
Tom Gray, founder of Jacksonville dining favorites Bistro Aix and Moxie Kitchen, is working on a new project dubbed, “Town Hall.” Located in the former home of The Grotto in San Marco, Town Hall will have an emphasis on food and attention to detail. The new concept will have a much more intimate setting with about 50 seats in a 2000 square-foot location. It is set to open by the end of 2016.
Doro is located in the spot formerly occupied by Tama’s Sushi, a 34-seat restaurant at 106 First Street. It will be headed up by Chris Polidoro, the former personal chef of Matt Lauer. Polidoro said he will be combining New York technique and presentation with locally sourced food. Doro is set to open by the end of summer 2016.
Southern Swells is a new brewpub coming to Jacksonville Beach in late 2016. Located in a 7500 square-foot space in Beach Plaza next to the courtyard, Southern Swells will offer multiple craft beers brewed in-house. Owners Corey Adams and Jay Varney recently won a gold medal in the Belgian ale category at the Hogtown Brew-off in Gainesville, Florida. They foresee hosting community events and yoga classes in their spacious location.
When the Florida Times Union did a survey to determine which national chain local residents wished would come to town, Red Robin topped the list. Fortunately, the chain announced their plan to open their first Jacksonville location at the new Town Center Promenade, located south of J. Turner Butler Boulevard off of Gate Parkway. Prior to this, the closest location was in Gainesville. Red Robin serves gourmet burgers, beer and bottomless fries. The tentative opening date is spring 2017.
Piada Italian Street Food
Town Center Promenade is also the future home of Piada Italian Street Food, a casual eatery serving fresh, modern Italian food. According to their website, Piada was inspired by a visit to Rimini, Italy. Piada is a thin Italian flatbread. They serve it with a variety of toppings and sauces, along with salads and pasta bowls. This is their first location in the Southeast, set to open in early 2017.
