River and Post is an elegant new addition to Jacksonville’s restaurant scene, and it’s certain to be a popular one. The amazing rooftop lounge, with its panoramic view of the river, is one reason. The inventive menu, featuring locally sourced delicacies and tempting cocktails, is another.
Located at 1000 Riverside Avenue, on the corner of Post Street, River and Post occupies the ground floor of Summit Tower. When you walk in the door, you are immediately greeted by the catch of the day on display over ice. Much of the seafood and produce is locally sourced — Executive Chef Elizabeth Arana demands it. Arana trained under Wolfgang Puck, Éric Ripert of Le Bernadin, David Burke of Iron Chef, and Alain Ducasse of Jules Verne, Eiffel Tower. Her menu is inventive, featuring temptations like the blue crab beignets with a Sriracha citrus crema, that are flavorful and addictive. The dinner menu is eclectic. Diners may choose a French bouillabaisse, Japanese Togarashi seared ahi tuna, or go for the comfort food such as Mayport shrimp and grits or buttermilk fried chicken.
Walk through the dining room to the elevators in the back and take an express ride to the ninth floor to experience the best part of River and Post. The rooftop bar features a sweeping view of the Saint Johns River and the Jacksonville skyline. Seating in the lounge area, with comfortable couches surrounding linear glass fire tables, is first-come, first-served. There are also two private areas that may be reserved — one facing the city skyline, and another facing south with a view of the sunset. The rooftop bar also features a retractable roof. The cocktail menu also highlights local products, with concoctions such as the Manifest Destiny (Manifest vodka, Giffard peach, champagne and lemon-lavender simple syrup) and the Assertive Lady (Marlin & Barrel 2nd Street gin, Creme de Mure, raspberry and lemon).
River and Post officially opens November 20. Reservations can be made by phone at 904-575-2366, or online, at riverandpostjax.com or Open Table.
