As of January 9, Chef Kenny Gilbert‘s two new Jacksonville Beach restaurants are now open for business … and you definitely want to pay him a visit.

Utilizing the space that Seachasers occupies (which still has a lounge inside), KG and Jim Franks, who owns the space, collaborated to bring the Beaches these two new Southern-inspired spots. While this might be a bit confusing, allow me to explain.

At the front of the building on the 1st Street side, you’ll find Gilbert’s Hot Chicken, Fish & Shrimp, a “fast-casual” Southern comfort food location — serving up (you guessed it) hot chicken, fish and shrimp.

Southern Kitchen & Bar (located upstairs on the beach side) is a modernized, yet traditional, Southern food restaurant with a larger menu and more options for guests with dietary restrictions. In addition, they also have a full bar menu focusing on whisky and moonshine cocktails carefully crafted by Chef KG himself.

The idea here, explained by the man behind each concept, is that Gilbert’s Hot Chicken, Fish & Shrimp will offer a more relaxed atmosphere for people coming in off the beach, after work or simply those looking to grab some food to go.

The upstairs portion is more of a sit-down-style place with a wider range of options in a slightly classier setting. As someone who has now tried both … you should definitely check these out.
