Gamble Rodgers Folk Festival: Dynamic Duos – November 30 @ Lohman Auditorium
Jacksonville Beach-based folk/pop duo Flagship Romance will be performing at the Lohman Auditorium on Saturday, November 30 for the Gamble Rodgers Folk Festival event “Dynamic Duos” to celebrate local Americana and folk music. Singer-songwriters, Jordyn Jackson and Shawn Fisher are an amazing duo who I have seen perform several times. Trust me, they are worth seeing. Playing alongside Flagship Romance is Sam Pacetti and Gabriel Valla, two local musicians renowned for their skills as guitarists. The duo represents some of the best Americana, Roots, and folk music traditions in our area.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door. Tickets can be purchased at Music Matters or Simple Gestures in St Augustine. Tickets are also available online at the festival’s website www.gamblerogersfest.org
Alabama Shakes – December 7 @ St. Augustine Amphitheater
American rock band Alabama Shakes have made quite a name for themselves in the music world being listed as, “One of the best new bands of 2012”, and are now coming to Jacksonville for the first time. At last years Grammy Awards, the group received three nominations for Best New Artist, Best Rock Performance for “Hold On”, and Best Recording Package for their debut album, Boys & Girls. Alabama Shakes is one of those bands that really shine when they perform live. After seeing them at Bonnaroo last year, I can say this is one show you won’t want to miss.
Big Ticket Festival – December 8 @ Metropolitan Park
On Sunday, December 8, the Big Ticket will return to Jacksonville. The fourth annual festival will take place at Metropolitan Park located along the St. Johns River in the downtown area. The lineup for this year’s Big Ticket boasts several acts ranging from rock and other alternative genres that include performances by bands such as Thirty Seconds to Mars, The 1975, Stone Temple Pilots, Manchester Orchestra, Jimmy Eat World and more. There are special discounted pre-sale tickets for the Big Ticket at http://www.thebigticketfest.com/
Pusha T – December 12 @ Brewsters Roc Bar
Pusha T’s latest album titled, My Name Is My Name, is easily one of the best albums to have been released in recent months. Pusha’s solo debut studio album has received almost nothing but good reviews from critics and MNIMN is undoubtedly one of Pusha T’s strongest works. Luckily for us, Pusha T is coming to Brewsters Roc Bar to perform, and this will almost certainly be an excellent chance to hear some of the new album live. The concert will be held on Thursday, December 12. Tickets can be purchased here. With tickets at the very reasonable price of $25 you’ll be sorry if you miss this one.
Misfits – December 15 @ Brewsters Roc Bar
This last one may come as a shocker, but there’s a reason why the Misfits have refused to fizzle out and disappear since first forming in 1977. The band is recognized as the fathers of “horror punk”, a blending of punk rock and other musical influences with horror film themes and imagery, and have continued to release music and hold concerts despite years of chaotic tours and numerous breakups. The Misfits released their latest album Dead Alive! in February, so the concert will likely be a mix of classic Misfit songs coupled with some material from Dead Alive! Regardless of your music tastes, this concert will definitely be something to write home about…or maybe you’ll just want to keep all of the horrific fun to yourself.
