North Beaches Art Walk @ Where Atlantic Blvd. meets the ocean
Jun 21 @ 5:00 pm – 9:00 pm
North Beaches Art Walk @ Where Atlantic Blvd. meets the ocean | Atlantic Beach | Florida | United States

North Beaches Artwalk is a free event held the third Thursday of each month from 5 to 9 pm. Featuring many local visual artists and live performers. Artwalk is held at the Atlantic Beach & Neptune Beach Town Centers.  Also at Adele Grage Cultural Center with a different featured artist every month.

With over 55 participating artists, Artwalk is a diverse art destination & shopping experience for the entire family. Local venues set the backdrop for this great monthly destination and community gathering.

The overall mission of Art Walk is to expose the community to the vast number of local artists right here at the Beaches and we thank all the local shops & restaurants for making it possible!  We welcome talent from all over Jacksonville to join North Beaches Art Walk.

The North Beaches Art Walk got its start in 2007 when Beaches art-industry professionals JoAnne Adams, Alice Gartland and Linda Stewart came together in hopes of recreating the popular art walk atmosphere of Downtown.

Through their nurturing and dedication, the event has grown considerably since its infancy. And on every third Thursday of the month, the streets of the Beaches Town Center erupt with creativity.

What was once a small pool of carefully selected artists has now become a bubbling ocean of art, a place where woodworkers comingle with jewelry designers and musicians play into the night. Welcoming to locals and out of towners alike, to say it’s a communal event would be putting it lightly; it’s an experience.

Beachside Buggies provides FREE rides to the residents and visitors of the beaches community.

It’s a perfect way to get around town on the evening of NBAW.

Corteo by Cirque du Soleil @ Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena
Aug 1 @ 7:30 pm
Corteo by Cirque du Soleil @ Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena | Jacksonville | Florida | United States

August 1 – 5, 2018

Corteo, the latest Cirque du Soleil’s arena production, embark on a new journey throughout North America. The show will visit Jacksonville at the Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena, from August 1 to 5, 2018 for a limited run of seven performances. This unique production, directed by Daniele Finzi Pasca, first premiered in Montreal under the Big Top in April 2005. Since then, the show has been a great success and has amazed 8 million people in 64 cities in 19 countries on four continents.
Corteo, which means cortege in Italian, is a joyous procession, a festive parade imagined by a clown. The show brings together the passion of the actor with the grace and power of the acrobat to plunge the audience into a theatrical world of fun, comedy and spontaneity situated in a mysterious space between heaven and earth.

The clown pictures his own funeral taking place in a carnival atmosphere, watched over by quietly caring angels. Juxtaposing the large with the small, the ridiculous with the tragic and the magic of perfection with the charm of imperfection, the show highlights the strength and fragility of the clown, as well as his wisdom and kindness, to illustrate the portion of humanity that is within each of us. The music turns lyrical and playful carrying Corteo through a timeless celebration in which illusion teases reality.

The concept and disposition of the stage bring the audience in a theatrical atmosphere like never seen before in Cirque du Soleil arena shows. The set curtains, inspired by the Eiffel Tower, and the central curtains, which were hand painted, give a grandiose feel to the stage. This sets the tone for the poetry of Corteo.

The cast of Corteo includes 51 acrobats, musicians, singers and actors from all around the world.

The Tony Award-winner for Best Musical features music and lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda (HamiltonBring it On The Musical, Moana) centers on an ensemble of characters in New York’s Washington Heights neighborhood. A place where the coffee from he corner bodega is light and sweet, the windows are always open and the breeze carries the rhythm of three generations of music. It’s a community on the brink of change, full of hopes, dreams and pressures, where the biggest struggles can be deciding which traditions you take with you, and which ones you leave behind. Spicy, gossipy and with plenty of soul!

Aug 16 @ 5:00 pm – 9:00 pm

Jacksonville PorchFest: A Music Festival on the Welcoming Porches of Historic Springfield

What is PorchFest?

PorchFest is a free event held in Historic Springfield, a community just north of downtown Jacksonville, Florida on the first Saturday of November. During the afternoon, dozens of bands perform on porches throughout this beautiful neighborhood, followed by an evening concert in Klutho Park.  Food trucks are plentiful and a variety of craft beer and wine is available for purchase.  Proceeds of PorchFest support arts related activities in Jacksonville’s urban core.

The fifth annual Jacksonville PorchFest, a music festival held on the welcoming front porches of Historic Springfield, will take place on Saturday, November 3, 2018, from 12 pm  to 9 pm.  The family-friendly, free event will feature musicians from a wide variety of genres.

Afternoon entertainment will include more than thirty performers on porches throughout the historic district. Attendees will stroll from porch to porch and “camp out” on front lawns and sidewalks as they enjoy live, local talent. This year the event will be bigger than ever, with performances in both the southwest and southeast quadrants of  Historic Springfield.  Maps of porches and performers have been posted here and provided on the day of the event.  Parking is available on Main Street, at Florida State College,  and near Confederate and Klutho Parks.

Along the way, there will be a variety of food, drink, and arts vendors to round out your experience in Jacksonville’s oldest and original front porch neighborhood.  Each year our event begins and ends in beautiful Klutho Park, with main stage performances near the historic bandstand.
PorchFest brings important attention to Springfield’s historic architecture and ongoing revitalization and highlights the breadth of musical talent here in Jacksonville. Proceeds from the event are dedicated to SPAR’s arts programming and education fund.
