The world’s largest online market place is coming to our backyard, and they are bring 1,500 jobs with them. The city of Jacksonville released a statement that Amazon is coming to Jacksonville with a new fulfillment center on the north side of town.
So, what does this mean for us? Well, it could mean same day shipping on all of those smaller items that we didn’t mean to purchase at 3 in the morning after spending the better part of an evening at the beach bars. We could literally wake up and have a pile of boxes at our door step the morning after a night of Drink and Prime.
Although Drinking and Priming may have its side effects, this is perfect for the last-minute, “Holy crap I forgot it’s mom and dad’s anniversary!” or the “I’m sorry” gift for the girlfriend. Not to mention all of those cool things we have been reading about Amazon drones could very well happen in Jacksonville (as long as they stay away from military bases).
At the end of the day 1,500 new jobs are coming to Jacksonville and over a third of them will have salaries of over $50,000 a year. Jacksonville hasn’t seen an influx this big in a very long time. $200 million dollars is the estimated impact on the local economy, and that will be huge for Northeast Florida!
