When you have money to splurge and or on the cheap, show your affection with some of these ideas for him or her. It can be as simple as a homemade card from construction paper, printer paper or decorative paper you may have at home. Be creative and use your imagination.

Bake or buy them what they love … a pie, a cake, brownies, cookies or muffins. Add a note card like “To My Stud MUFFIN.” There is nothing like homemade to say, “I love you.”

Make a bottle of massage oil from your kitchen pantry. Pour some olive oil in a pretty bottle and attach a tag to it add a ribbon with hearts or lips. Write a loving message and let them know they are going to get a sensual massage from you.

Buy some iconic Hershey’s kisses chocolate in the kind they like, dark chocolate, milk chocolate, with almonds and more. Lay the kisses down with fresh or faux rose petals and make a trail from when they open the door to the bedroom, or you can do this on the bed.

Another D.I.Y. you can do is make a jar of aromatic relaxing bath salts. Epsom salts work wonders. Sprinkle a dash of essential oil in a scent they like and close the jar tight for a few days for it to infuse. Add a candle and put them both in a gift bag or heart shaped basket and you are good to go.

Nothing says “I LOVE YOU” like strawberries gilded in sparkling shades of gold, red or pink sugar. Shop small Jacksonville and check out Glamour Gourmet on Instagram — that’s how I found them. He or she will swoon and love you for this edible gift. Champagne is out, but sparkling Prosseco is in — and the best part is it’s cheaper!

There is nothing like a handwritten LOVE letter! Write like you mean it and on paper. Not a text message please. I have written a few notes and letters to my husband and I must tell you he LOVED it. The look on his face said it all. He still has them. If it is too much for you to do, try a note on the mirror made with a simple soap bar and write the words “I LOVE you” or any short message or words that mean something special to the two of you.

When you do not have money for a box of decadent chocolates buy a jar of Nutella. This can be used as a sexy lickable treat. Use your imagination. Add a card that says, “I am nuts about you.”

Treat them to a Passion Fruit facial, it not only cleans the skin, but is very relaxing. Skin Spa by Casey at the beach has a special on this facial. Just in time for V-day! Guys want to look good and love facials too.

Give him or her a certificate for a warm bath. Add a candle to this gift and tell them whenever they are ready you are. Add fragrant bubble bath, a few fresh edible flowers and help them soak their cares away. Add a glass of sparkling Prosecco and they will love you forever.

I once found an actual door key at the hardware store that was white with a set of red lips on it. I wrapped it in a big box with a V-day type ribbon and bow. I wrote a message with it that read, “You have the key to my lips and heart forever.” He got such a kick out of it.

No money to take her or him out for dinner? Buy some wine and cheese and have a picnic indoors on your living room floor. Add some candles and good music and you are all set.

If you have money to splurge, buy a gift card for a relaxing massage with a professional. There are so many places in town to make this gift happen. Shop around for the best price and place.

GOT MONEY?

If you have never experienced a real SPA, you do not know what you are missing. Put it on your bucket list at least once in your lifetime. Google and find a spa near you and book and appointment for all day or half days worth of services. Just make sure it is a true DAY SPA. Not a salon that does hair, nails and a massage. You need to do a little research or ask a friend for a recommendation. You can BOTH go for a spa day or give him or her a gift card for a SPA DAY. They offer packages for lovers especially this time of year.

There is really no excuse why you cannot give your lover a card or gift. If you are broke, there is always a Dollar Store! The days of spending a fortune for a greeting card and empty gift bag are over. For $10 you can get a card, a V-day bag or heart shaped basket, go to town, and give them eight fabulous gifts. Each of these stores around town offers something fabulous. You never know what you will find. These stores are hidden gems in any city.

Yes, I am a hopeless romantic! I love the unique and unexpected. Let your imagination go wild and have a fabulous Valentine’s Day.
